Dear Friends and Family!
I'm so excited for Amy Twitchell, she is going to be the most BOMB missionary the world has ever seen and I'm so happy she got her visa. Still praying for mine, but I'll be straight. Detroit is pretty legit. Bankkrupt... but legit. Humble people. Brother G in our ward, blessed the sacrament this week, which is cool .
We're still working our tails off with T. He loves having us, talking about the Gospel, having FHE, but he won't come to Church. But it's okay, it's all in the Lord's time. Everything is all in the Lords time. It's hard because we have so many people on date and we have to remember to be patient.
But we had a baptism this week in the elders area. A girl named S. She just turned 11. Me and Sister Decker went to her birthday party on Wednesday, and it was really cool. Her mom, R, is a member. Way cool, she has long dreads and she reminds me of T when she talks. Her husband, R, is not a member but we talk to him a lot. He loves to Garden and showed interest in being a Scout Master, and Rick would be the greatest scout master known to man. Did you know that there are lots here that you could buy for like... $200. He wants to buy a lot, plant trees, throw in a pond, and make it a big project for the boys... which would be really good for the boys because it's either do that, or start selling drugs. They start teaching the boys at around the age of 12 how to be drug dealers. Isn't that the saddest thing you've ever heard? But we get as many kids as we can to church because they are the most open to it. It's crazy because I didn't think that I would actually be in Detroit while I'm here, but we have to go into Detroit for a lot of things. Ree and Rick live deep in Detroit. I took a lot of fun pictures so you can see what its like right now.
On Tuesday, we met with the Mission President. He's pretty cool. Then we met with O, and O is realy progressing. It's awesome. We're working on getting him back on date. We've also started talking to this guy J. He's next door to the Owens (members), and loves to talk to us. He's coming to our stake bbq and we are going to try and invite him to a baptism on Saturday. It's the week before transfers and our Mighty District Leader is going home so we're trying our best to make it the best week possible.
On Wednesday, we met with S, who had some kind of surgery and didn't tell us about it. So we had her study about the priesthood, and the elders went over and gave her a blessing. She needed to know more because she wanted us, the sisters, to baptize her. We had to explain why we couldn't haha.
On Thursday, it was sister Decker's birthday. How awesome is that?!!!!! We also went to the temple and I saw one of my best friends of all time there... Sister Jory Miller! We freaked because we didn't see eachother until we were in the temple and we had this silent screaming moment. Then we got back and got ready for a YSA thingy happening that night. There was 1 member, 4 investigators, 2 recent converts, and 2 less actives. Great missionary opportunity for us definitely. Then me and sister decker went home and stuffed our faces with cake. We tried to light the candles with the stove and lighting things on fire, but that only set off the fire alarms.
Friday, we had house inspections, and then the senior missionaries took us to lunch, and then s made lunch for us. We got a lot of food this week.... that is good and bad. On the mission we have this thing called "magic belly" where you can eat things you usually wouldn't.
We visited this old man brother m. He's a retired English teacher who's kind of like a man mrs phelan.I gave a talk at S baptism, and then we did a few visits on Saturday. We visited this lady M, who is less active, but she is really cool. She struggles with a few things in the gospel, because she grew up in a family who was Mormon but didn't practice what we believe so it was really hard. Same with R. She grew up in a fundamental lds home. She was so happy to find the missionaries in Detroit.
I gave a talk in church and went to the zoo today..
Anyways, I'm out of time, so I'll send pics next week. I got some good ones. I might just send the memory card home soon.
Love you lots, Sister Marshall
