This week has been a winner of afflicted weeks haha! I was reading in Alma this week and I was so excited to get to all of the missionary stories with Alma, Amulek, Ammon, Omner, Himni.. You know.. the good stuff. With that I read several scriptures that talked about "bearing with patience long-sufferings and afflictions". I then read about all of those missionary stories, and they all STARTED with bearing afflictions (prison, sickness, fatigue, suffering). Then I thought... man... somethings going to happen this week, where I'm going to have to be patient with afflictions. Well... I was right!
To start, I got a cold from the exchange because the Sister Training Leader was sick. So Sunday and Monday, I was sick with a cold. Tuesday, we get a call from the Sister Training Leader, who tells my companion, who is a cosmetologist, that she has lice and has had it for a while and found out that morning. My companion walked her thru the steps of getting rid of them, and then told us what happened. I IMMEDIATELY panicked and said, "SISTER. I'VE BEEN SLEEPING IN HER BED FOR 2 DAYS." We immediately panicked and started combing thru my hair. Needless to say- I GOT LICE! And my mane is something that has taken DAYS of combing and combing and you guessed it... combing. It was miserable. Then on Thursday night, I got a stomach bug. Friday Morning, we were combing thru my hair during weekly planning.
I'm sitting there completely helpless and in awful pain from the flu, and I get a call from the Office Missionaries telling me that I have to call the consulate, and then travel services to figure why I have to talk to the Consulate. So I call the consulate and they say that I can't talk over phone. So I call travel services, and they say to call back the consulate and ask because they told me to call them. So I call them, and they got mad about dad's middle name... and then they told me that they called my phone (the number I gave them almost a year ago) and I never called them back. I apologized, and they said, well...don't be sorry. you're the one who wants a visa..not us. They just told me to call the church to send someone down to the consulate to finalize a few last things. They sent someone to the consulate on either friday, or someone is talking to them today. So at This point, I'm bawling, sick to my stomach, and my head is lice infested, and I was talking to travel services and you could tell the lady just felt so bad for me and was just like.... when you get to brazil this will all be worth it! BAH!! It was rough, but it is all in the past now!
Anyways, some good things came out of this whole fiasco. While going to the store, we ran into this less-active, M. M joined the church, and then married a man who would not let her go anymore. We were teaching her daughter S, who is not a member, for a while, but M told us to stop coming by because it was giving her to much grief with her husband. This was about 6 weeks ago. Anyways, we were at the store, buying lice shampoo, and we see M. We didn't want to push her or anything, so we just said, hi how are you, k bye! and as we were leaving she said.... can you guys come by on Friday around 5? It was awesome! If I had not got the lice, we would not have been at the store to buy shampoo, and run into this person who was essentially a Do-Not-Contact who invited us over. So that was cool. ANd even though I was sick, we still were able to go out and do a lot of work.
Isn't Janet the best? She is one of my favorite people of all time. She is a member, and her grandson is a member. We visit K'shawn a lot. We just go over and visit with both of them once or twice a week. It's way awesome. She is probably my favorite person in the world!
Also, if you didn't hear. I had dinner with the Olsens on Saturday! It was the best!!!!! I NEEDED that after the crazy week we had. But they are the best. They also have visa stuff to deal with too. I want them to go straight to brazil so bad! That would be so cool if I served around Elder Olsen hahaha! Anyways, Love you guys.
Oh and last concern. My debit card is going to expire while I'm out on my mission, most likely in brazil. what should I do?
Well, love you guys! Hope all is well. Good luck in school
