E AÍ FAMÍLIA
All is good here in rio verde. its been raining a lot, and the whole city smells like poop. but it is what it is i suppose haha. its also mango season and there are so many mango trees, i~ll probably get sick from eating so much. and i~ll probably be fat too haha.
I am so glad that everyone is doing great.
This last week, a bunch of things happened. So it started raining finally. Seriously, this dry season was pretty rough on me. But it got really cold out of nowhere on Monday, and then really cold again on Tuesday. My companion, SIster Hitchcock got sick from the rapid weather change I think, as did half of the city. I was fine :) But we took it easy this week, because I didn~t want her to get sicker than she already was.
So it rained a lot this week, thank goodness. It~s been so hot in these parts that we needed a good rain to just make life a little bit easier. Rio Verde went without water a few days because it wasn~t raining anywhere near here, and so Rio Verde ran out of water. Luckily our street was fine. But just about every other neighborhood in Rio Verde was without running water for about 3 or 4 days. It was nuts.
Lets see. As far as people we teach, we had a lot of funny things happen this week. And by funny, I mean funny, and awkward, and cool, and just about every other descriptive word that exists.
First of all, we were walking to lunch and this guy on a scooter pulls up. He~s like, you~re missionaries. What church? So we talk to him a little bit, seems super interested, and then tries to give us money. We were like... oh no, but can we pass by your house this week? And he was like, yeah, I live in this neighborhood, but I~m super new. The only thing I know is that I live close to this bread factory in a small house. So we were like....okay, so we were like... WE HAVE TO FIND THIS HOUSE. THIS GUY IS GOLDEN. So we were walking and we get to this neighborhood, and I~ll be honest. There doesn~t exist a small house in this neighborhood. We seriously walk the entire neighborhood, and can~t find this ´´small house´´ near a bread factory. So for the moment. We give up. That night, EVERYTHING FELL THROUGH. So we were like... Lets try and find this place again. So we go back and find an apartment complex. We talk to this lady in the front and say, ´´does Ti--- live here?´´ and she was like.... maybe he lives here. maybe he doesn~t. we were like... uhhh... okay.... and then she was like.. are you jehovas witnesses? I was like. no, we~re the church close to the hospital, and she was like... OH. Yeah, Ti--- lives here. Then her daughter was messing around and skid her knee, so she was like, can you come and pray with us? She was a little drunk, but we were like.. sure, so we said a prayer and left. But the good news is we found this guy. He wasnt home so we weren~t able to teach him, but atleast we found an address.
Second story happened yesterday. The last few weeks we~ve been teaching this lady, E----. She is super cool. We were like, hey, lets pass by E----- right now, so we pass by her house and her husband, who doesn~t like us very much opens the door, and its safe to say he was sleeping. So then E----comes out and is like... Hey, I just woke up. Come in, I~ll make you dinner. So it was super awkward, we were just sitting there, she~s making food, her husband is super tired, and we~re just making small talk.. like...so hows work...
THEN E----~s mom shows up. And E--- is still cooking. Her mom was friendly but a little stand-offish, and was like... did E---- tell you she didn~t want lessons anymore? And I was like... no. ANd she was like.. oh, she didn~t tell you? I told her that she needed to tell you because she was talking to me the other day about how she didn~t want anymore lessons but didn~t know how to say that she wasn~t interested. In that moment, I was thinking, wow. this got really awkward really fast. So then I had like a cool Book of Mormon experience where they talk about the Gift of Discernment. I~d always wanted one of those moments where you could tell what were the intentions of the people you were teaching. I~d never felt like I could actually tell. You know when Ammon is talking to King Lamoni, and and King Lamoni is like... freak, you can read my mind. Or when Amulek was being questioned by Zeezrom, and it said that he knew what Zeezrom was thinking. I always thought that was so cool, and I couldn~t figure out how that was possible.
So when the mom said that, I was thinking, easy, we just won~t come back here. But then, something popped into my head. She~s lying. And then something else popped up into my head. She~s catholic, and doesn~t like the fact that her daughter is taking missionary discussions from Mormons. And then I thought, if we dropped E----, we would be losing an investigator who is very interested.
Then I asked her a question that I didn~t even think that I was going to ask her. It kind of just fell out of my mouth.´´ When you visited our church, what did you think?´´ I had no idea that she had already visited our church. But her eyes got really big, it like...freaked her out. She waited a minute, and was like... I~ve never been to your church. And E---- appeared out of no where, and was like... yes you did. We made a visit about a year ago, and you were with me. And her mom just glared at her and was like.. no I never went there. And she was like... yes you did. I know for a fact you did. And then she just stopped talking. It was super awkward, so then I was like.. well we have an appointment we have to go to, and as we were leaving, E---- was like... whatever my mom told you, she~s lying. It was interesting.
Lets see. Other than that, I don~t have much more to say. But Rio Verde is great. I~m looooving it here, and sad that I only have 2 more weeks, but it is what it is.
Love you all
