Aloha friends and family!
This week, was great. So great. Like I've told you, previously the weeks ahve been really hard, and it's been a struggle finding people to teach. But we've had our hands full this week with different events and lessons to teach! It's really been a good week!
So you heard from me last on Wednesday. I already told you about a lot of things that happened. We had a specialized training to try out a new teaching technique. I was super skeptical, and was a little afraid of how it would work with college students. But, we've been doing it to show our faith, and so far, it's been pretty good.
On Thursday, we spent the entire day contacting. We talked to tons of people and happy day, we found a new investigator! He was just sitting at campus and we walked up to talk to him because usually the people sitting can't be like.... busy! Anyway, we start talking to him a little bit, and a weird thing happened. He was actually listening to what we had to say. Honestly, I don't even remember what we were saying, but finally I said, "Is that something you would be interested in?" and he paused for a minute, and was like.... "yeah!" I was like...."wait...what?" So we set up an appointment for him the next day, but totally forgot to get his number. So I tell Sister Hirz about it, and she was like... he's not going to show up. We didn't get his number or anything. But I totally believed he would come to the Institute the next day. So we were at the Institute, Sister Hirz is like... he's so not coming. and right at 1, we hear the door bell ring. So we talk to him, and he was like... Yeah, I was wondering if you thought I was just not going to show up, but I said I would, so here I am. Super super cool guy. His name is S and S rocks. So we meet with him, go through the restoration, it was really good. We then just talked a lot about Jesus Christ and how he's there to help us through our trials, our temptations, and our suffering. Not just our sins. We'll probs meet with him some time this week and do the Plan of Salvation. I'm quite excited.
Then we had a lesson, with X. X is trying really hard, and it was cool, because this time we talked to him, he told us that he really believes what we're telling him. It's different than the last few lessons with him, where he says he's not sure. But he is going to tell us what day he wants to get baptized, so we're super excited about that. The hardest thing with him is that he barely speaks English. Last time we met with him, we were reading from 1 Nephi 11, and he was like.... What is the Lamb of God? And so we explained that it is Jesus Christ, and how lambs back in the day were sacrificed, so it's symbolic. And he was like.... What are lambs? Me and Sister Hirz couldn't look at eachother, or we would start laughing. But he's really good. He just can't really understand what we are saying.
Yesterday, we had a lesson with Y. She came to church and loved it. And then she wanted to go to choir practice, and then we went to dinner at Noelle's, one of our members. Y was excited because this was her first american homecooked meal. It was funny because last week, we had dinner with A and it was his first time eating cow. Good times. There was a huge tornado warning last night. I almost got blown away by the huge winds. No biggy though, when I have to think about those poor Phillippine missionaries. I heard that story from Noelle. I couldn't even believe it. All of those stories remind me of that movie, The Impossible. About the tsunami in Indonesia. I couldn't keep my eyes open in that movie. I can't even imagine going through something that traumatizing. AHHH. I"m just glad they are safe. I've been praying really hard for them. It's funny because yesterday it was pouring, and my companions are both pretty new to the whole mission thing and they had never seen rain like that before. It was kind of funny. And we hydroplaned a tiny bit at one point in the day, and my companions were like... WHAT JUST HAPPENED. I THOUGHT WE WERE GOING TO DIE. Kind of funny. Welllll. Thanks for the packages! I'm excited for the music and what not. And the slippas Amy sent are awesome too!
Thanks for everything. Really appreciate it.
Love, Sister Marshall
